Notes:
*    Back ridge-bump:  If you turn the beginning chain to the back, you will notice a hump or bump on each chain.
Work the first row into these bumps.

*    Dec-3-togPull up a loop from each of the next 3 stitches.
Yarn over, and pull through all 4 loops on the hook.

*    To mark stitches use a safety pin, a thread or a stitch marker.

 *     When changing yarn color (Edging for rnd 2 or rnd 3):
FO and join the new color with a Sc in the same st as the joined st from the last rnd.

HEART
Row 1:  Ch 10.  Working in the back ridge-bumps:
Sk 1 ch, and Sc across. Turn.  (9)
Row 2:  Ch 1, Sc in first, sk 1Sc in 5sk 1Sc in last. Turn.  (7)

Row 5:  Ch 1, Dec-3-tog. Turn.  (1)
Row 6:  Ch 1, Sc.  Turn. (1)

Now the piece should sort of look like an hour-glass.

Note:
For Small Heart: FO and weave in after Rnd 1
For Medium Heart:  FO and weave in after Rnd 2
For Large Heart: FO and weave in after Rnd 3

Joining Round:
Fold rows 1 -5 (the bottom half) up and behind rows 7 -11.
Rows 11 and 1 should be even at the top, with row 11 in front.
The marked stitch (row 6) should be directly at the bottom point.

Rnd 1:  Working down the first side of the rows:
Ch 1.  Insert hook through the top loops of the last sc made and through the top loops of the corresponding sc of Row 1.
 Sc through both thicknesses.

Keeping front and back aligned, continue to:
Sc through both thicknesses over the next 4 rows.

3 Sc’s in the marked st at the bottom point.
Continue to work up the other side:
Sc through both thicknesses over the next 5 rows.  (The last sc is made through the top loops of row 11 and row 1.)

Now, work only on Row 11, the front flap (leave back part free).
Working across the top of Row 11:
Sk the same st that you just crocheted into, and also sk the next st.

6 Dc’s in the next st, sk 1ss in next, sk 16 Dc’s in the next st, sk the last 2 sts.
Join with a ss in the first sc of this rnd.  (13sc + 6dc + 1ss + 6dc = 26 sts)

Note:  For the next round, you can join a contrasting color, OR maintain the same color.
If you are changing to a new color:

FO and join the new color with a Sc in the same st as the joined st from the last rnd.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1.  Sc in 63 Sc’s in the center tip, Sc 6 (up the side),
Inc in each of the next 4 sts,
Sc in next, ss in next 3Sc in next,
Inc in each of the next 4 sts.
Join with a ss in the back loop of the first sc of this rnd.  (15sc + 9sc + 3ss + 9sc = 36 sts)

Note:  For the next round, you can join a contrasting color, OR maintain the same color.
If you are changing to a new color:

FO and join the new color with a Sc in the back loop of the joined st from the last rnd.

Rnd 3:  [Lace Edging]    Work all stitches in the Back Loops Only.
Ch 1.  Sc in the same joining st.
(Ch 3, sk 1Sc in next) 12 times.
(The 4th loop will be over the bottom center tip of the heart)
            Ss in the next st,
(Sc in next, sk 1, Ch 3) 5 times.
Join with a ss to the first sc of the rnd.  (12 ch-lps + ss + 5 ch-lps = 17 loops and 1 ss)
